‘I am Singh’ is first of its kinds to be shot at Ground Zero and Puneet Issar is too proud to get the permission from officials to shoot his film in New York.
This site is the same which was attacked on 11 September, 2011 and the World Trade Center officials were unwilling to give permission to shoot at this site. However after a year’s effort Puneet Issar who is directing ‘I am Singh’ sought permission.
“Yes, we are allowed to shoot there now. Eighty per cent of the film is shot in America. We kept putting up our case to the concerned department. Finally, the authorities gave their nod,” said Issar, whose film is based on the issue of mistaken identity of Sikhs in America post 9/11.
An insider also reports, “Convincing American authorities weren’t easy, as they thought the film would portray a negative image of the country. Even the American crew hired for the project was apprehensive. They needed clarification as to what we were making.”
“I’m hoping for things to pass off peacefully. National sentiments on the subject are still strong. Besides New York, shooting will also take place in San Francisco and Los Angeles,” says Puneet.
