Recently released controversial film, Dam999, banned by the State for six months, has been shortlisted for the Oscars under the Best Picture category.

Dam999 is among the  265 films that have been shortlisted for the 2012 Academy Awards.

Surprisingly Dam999, produced by Warner Bros.,  is shortlisted as Hollywood film.

Three songs ‘Dam999-Theme Song’, ‘Dakkanaga Dugu Dugu’ and ‘Mujhe Chodke’ have made to the final 39 songs selected for the Academy’s Original Songs category

Dam999 is directed by Kerala based naval architect Sohan Roy who has also written the songs for the film.

The 84th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Tuesday, January 24, 2012; at 5:30 a.m.

Dam999 is an English film that features Indian actors Rajit Kapur, Vimala Raman, Vinai Rai and Ashish Vidhyarthi. It has also been dubbed in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam.

Dam999 was screened for a week starting October 28, at Los Angeles, USA. It also fulfilled other criteria of being exhibited theatrically on 35 mm, 70 mm or in digital format and having a running time of over 40 minutes.
