Rumours were making round that Preity Zinta is no longer associated with IPL 2012 and has bailed out of it. But she had curbed all the speculation by making a public appearance in Pune’s Sahara Stadium sporting the outfit of team’s color.
She says, “I’m not a quitter! This has been my baby since its inception and I’d only bail out if things went terribly wrong.”
Last year many things happened that were not in favor of this Mohali based franchise. After the controversy between the BCCI and Lalit Modi, Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals were expelled from the league over financial irregularities.
The owners of the team then moved to court to get a stay on the injunction. They were later permitted to take part in auction and play through depositing a security of $18 million.
Preity sighs and says about the whole episode, “It’s been tedious and heart-wrenching. The dialogue with BCCI continues. At the auction, the economics changed and we started out at a disadvantage since we had to pay double. We couldn’t bid for a dozen extra players, but we got the ones we wanted. For us it’s not so much about buying players as building a team. We have young talent and despite some unforeseen injuries, we’re hoping they come together under Gilly (captain Adam Gilchrist).”
Yuvraj was the former captain for her team and he has just returned to India after his treatment for Cancer. “Yuvi is a fighter and I hope to see him return to the field soon,” says Preity when asked about Yuvi.
However she confesses that she wouldn’t be a regular to the fields as this time she is busy with her film’s production and acting in ‘Ishq In Paris’.
“I didn’t expect my film to clash with the IPL, but we have a big schedule in India in about 10 days. There are a couple of other surprises in store. After three-and-a-half years of saying I don’t do shows, I went on stage on Sunday. There’s lots happening, I’m back to doing everything,” she signs off.
